The Islamic Society of Northern Wisconsin

The ISNW, known locally as the Altoona Mosque, is the first mosque and Islamic center in Northern Wisconsin. It is a house of worship serving approximately 65 Muslim families and an important part in the interfaith community of the Chippewa Valley. The mosque actively participates with many other local faith communities. People of all faiths are welcome to visit.

In 1991, Dr. Mahmoud Taman co-founded the ISNW along with Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed, Dr. Irfane Khatib, Dr. Abdel Ghani Khatib, and Mr. Mostafa Abdelwahid.

The Islamic Society of Northern Wisconsin celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2016 with a community open house attended by 200 friends from the Chippewa Valley.

The ISNW managed the affairs of the Mahmoud S Taman Trust, until the Mahmoud S. Taman Foundation was created in 2015.
