The Foundation
The Mahmoud S Taman Foundation is a 501(c)(3) private foundation organized for charitable, educational, scientific, or religious purposes which has been granted non-profit status by the Internal Revenue Service.The specific purposes of the Foundation are:
To provide grants to support projects and grassroots efforts that promote interfaith and civic causes and whose general nature is the promotion of humanity. Projects may include efforts that are: interfaith outreach actions (especially those advocating for inclusivity of Islam), civic participation, peace education, humanitarian issues, health promotion (including mental health awareness and advocacy), education and literacy, arts and culture, or other such areas as deemed eligible. These efforts can be undertaken by organizations or by individuals that are aimed at fulfilling a need to the targeted community. Projects can take place in the Chippewa Valley community of Northern Wisconsin, elsewhere In North America, or internationally. The Foundation may also undertake its own initiatives in line with the efforts and areas described above or as the board deems necessary.
To provide scholarships to students in North America who are pursuing an education with an emphasis in Islamic studies; with the intention of serving as Islamic educators, scholars, religious practitioners, chaplains, or guidance counselors. The Foundation's intent is to support a new, young generation of Islamic scholars who will provide progressive responses in the teaching and outreach of Islam.
Dr. Mahmoud Taman, the initiator of the Foundation, received his medical education in Alexandria, Egypt, as such the Foundation intends to provide aid to patients facing chronic illness or disability who are in financial need and are living in Egypt. At the discretion of the Foundation's Board, funding can also be granted to international patients.
